No Mother

There are days that I look over at one of my children, gasp, and say, "That child looks like they have no mother!" Shockingly dirty faces, unkept hair, mismatches socks, helicopter hats in church, full winter outfits in summer, and getting somewhere to find out that someone didn't put on any shoes are just some of the things that have gotten this reaction out of me (not to mention the behaviors that cause me to gasp and say the same thing). It was a little too quiet yesterday and I decided I needed to find Ginger and see what she was up to. This is what I found. She is, at least, wearing a diaper . . . . after all . . . she does have a mother.

Playing Hookie

We played hookie last week and hiked to timpanogos cave with my friend Lori. It was a fabulous day. I was very grateful to have Lori entertain the ever-talkative Leo and even take a turn packing Ginger up the mountain. I'm sure you all know, but I just have to say it----I just love Lori. We met the summer before we went into sixth grade. (Hannah's age). I hope Hannah is lucky enough to have a life-long friend too.
One of my favorite memories of this day was when we were on the tour. Leo just couldn't stop talking to the tour guide and trying to answer all of his questions. At one point the tour guide asked everyone if they knew what it was called when a stalagmite and a stalactite grew together and "got married". Leo shouted out, "lagattacks".

Easter

This is the first year that dye didn't stain everyone's fingers for the next two weeks. I don't think even one egg was consumed, but we had a lot of fun coloring them.

We are never this clean for long. A quick picture had to be taken.

Baby Teeth

I've been thinking a lot about baby teeth lately. I love baby teeth. They are so cute and evenly spaced. Look at this old picture of Ginger and her perfect little baby teeth. I look at that mouth and I just want to kiss it. It's so perfect.

Leo is currently losing teeth and it has reminded me how goofy we all look until we not only get all of our adult teeth---but grow into them. It's just a hideous stage, and honestly, just not as cute and kissable.

Deliciousness

It's no secret that I am a serious lover of food. It's just the way it is. I've decided to make a top ten list of my current favorites---just in case you'd like to try something new. These are in no particular order, because we all know that favorites change depending on mood.
1. Pat's BBQ---There is simply no better barbecue in town. I usually don't think ribs are worth the effort----these ones are. They have live blues music on Friday and Saturday nights at 7pm.
2. The Red Iguana---It's all delicious, but I love the chicken enchiladas so much that I don't bother with anything else.
3. Smart Cookie Company---don't bother with anything but the frosted sugar cookie, but make sure to buy at least a dozen of them.
4. Gepetto's---I've been going to this place since high school. It's very nostalgic for me. Order a pizza with red sauce and your favorite toppings, and then order a side of their homemade cucumber dressing to dip your crust in (the dressing is a very important part of the experience, so don't forget it). Gepetto's often has someone playing a guitar and singing folksy songs.
5. Big City Soup---my favorite is Tomato Gorgonzola. Yum.
6. Cafe Trio---The appetizer is my favorite part. Make sure to order the Rosemary Flat Bread with goat cheese, roasted peppers, carmalized onions, and tomatoes. I think about it all the time. You won't believe how good it is.
7. The Village Baker---I like the chicken salad sandwich on a sour dough roll. Make sure they don't put mayo and mustard on the roll (the sauce in the chicken salad is plenty). I like to bring home a loaf of their sourdough bread for dinner (they make the real stuff) and no one can get out of there without a brownie or special k bar.
8. I am a big fan of Thai food, not everyone is. I don't have a favorite Thai restaurant, but I like Thai Delight for fresh spring rolls and a soup that I can't pronounce---I think it is number 10 or 11 on the menu, Simply Thai for Beef Massaman, Bangkok Thai for Green Curry, and Thaifoon for lettuce wraps.
9. Cafe Rio---We all know about it, and it is delicious. Have you tried their chips and queso?
10. Teppanyaki---This is my favorite place to eat shrimp. I'm not a huge fan of having it flung into my mouth---but you can bet I'm going to catch it. I would never allow such deliciousness to fall to the floor.

A Not-So-Candid Moment

You know how kids do cute stuff and you wish you could catch it on camera---without them knowing? Marcus and I gave up. We'll never capture this moment candidly---even though it occurs throughout the entire day, every day. So, we gave our cute Ginger girl a microphone and told her to sing like the princess she is.
